MARINA BRANCH:

Juan Vargas back at it again, another job in the books!

 

Castroville Bike and Pedestrian Bridge

This is a new bike and pedestrian bridge over railroad tracks made for safety measures to access the school located on the other side. Juan installed rigid pipe encased in the bridge for L.E.D. lighting, brought power to two different pedestals and installed pedestrian/bike crosswalk L.E.D. signs as well.

GIVING BACK!

 

Nabieha Miqbel, Estimator at CECI for 4.5 years and Dante Rosellini, Safety Coordinator at CECI for 10 months were the first to take advantage of our new volunteer time-off benefit by spending the day at the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento – Women’s Build Day. Below are some Q & A’s about their experience.

1. What motivated you to work with this organization?

We chose to get involved with Habitat for Humanity because we stand behind and support the values and mission of this organization. They’re dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitation and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies. They provide training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. This was an outlet for both of us to make a positive difference in our community and help a local hardworking family. It was also a Women Build Day and we’re ALL about GIRL POWER.

2. What is the biggest personal benefit you received as a volunteer with this organization?

It was such a rewarding experience! We helped a family replace their old roof. There were times when we were up on the roof and it was hot and we were tired, but we kept moving forward. We knew how important this was to the family and how much they were counting on us. We donate money to many great causes, but donating time, blood, sweat and tears is a different experience. The experience is more personal and there is a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. By donating our time we were able to see the impact we made from start to finish.

3. What is the most memorable accomplishment of your volunteer experience?

Replacing a roof is not an easy task. After a long day of hard work we both expressed how much we look forward to next years event. Oh and Dante loved and mastered using the nail gun.
